Application

Abrasive Slurry Transfer

Problem

An iron ore handling site needed to transfer abrasive, high-solids slurry from a sump to the processing area. Conventional dewatering pumps wore rapidly and choked on settled solids, causing repeated downtime.

Required Flow

Medium-flow abrasive slurry (site-specific — replace with actual site duty)

Required Head

Moderate discharge head to processing area (site-specific)

Slurry Characteristics

High mixture specific gravity, hard abrasive ore solids, fast settling, intermittent heavy slugs during operation.

Pump Selected

SSEW — Heavy Slurry Lift Submersible Pump

Technical Solution

HET selected the SSEW heavy slurry lift family for its abrasion-resistant construction and solids-handling impeller, sized to run near its best-efficiency point to limit wear. Material of construction was matched to the hard ore particles.

Installation

Submersible installation in the ore-handling sump, close to the slurry source, removing suction-lift problems and allowing the pump to clear settled solids on restart.

Result

Reduced blockage on restart and longer wear-part life compared with the previous dewatering pumps, with continuous handling of the high-solids iron ore slurry. (Replace with verified outcome figures from the actual project.)
